How We’re Doing
Reaching the Vision
Reaching the Vision is a report on five years of sustainability efforts at UF. The report is meant to share our existing best practices and progress toward our collective vision and the metrics set forth by our peers. With the broad commitment and dedication our campus community has shown toward sustainability, it is impossible to share everything that has been accomplished. Instead, we have highlighted some of the most impactful efforts and information, and shared the opportunities, challenges and next steps to continue on our path toward a Sustainable UF.
The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS®) is a recently developed, transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to gauge progress toward sustainability. STARS was developed by the American Association for Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) with broad participation from the higher education community. UF is a charter participant in STARS. Our first report was released in January 2011.
In 2011, UF was ranked as the top school on the Roberts Environmental Center’s sustainability reporting of the top U.S. universities. UF also received a B+ on the Sustainable Endowment Institute’s College Sustainability Report Card, and has been repeatedly featured in the Princeton Review’s “Guide to 311 Green Colleges.”
In 2013, the UF Athletic Association was recognized as a ‘Game Changer’ by the Green Sports Alliance, one of just 10 universities to receive this recognition for their efforts in sustainability.
